Background and challenges

Built and operated by INDIGO under a public service delegation contract awarded by the city, the Foch car park in the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz opened its doors at the end of 2023. The project was technically complex due to its immediate proximity to the port, and also had to fit into a very tight seasonal tourist calendar.

This project is an integral part of the development of the îlot Foch, in the town center of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, whose ambition is to give space back to city dwellers. By freeing up surface space, the Parc du Port will redesign the urban space and facilitate access and parking in the city center. The program includes planted forecourts, wider and safer pedestrian walkways and new bicycle lanes.

An underground car park combining fluidity and services

The building, which had to be built at depths of up to 35 metres, was constructed level by level, starting with the moulded wall to ensure watertightness.

The infrastructure has 427 parking spaces spread over 5 basements and 17 electric vehicle charging stations on the first level. A closed Cyclopark area offers 22 parking spaces, a self-repair workshop and a bicycle tyre inflation station.

The new car park focuses on user comfort, with multiple access ramps and easy circulation and parking for wide vehicles. Depending on the flow of vehicles, the three-lane entrance and exit ramps can be reconfigured to make them more fluid. Parking space guidance with information panels at the entrance to the car park indicates available spaces by level.

The park is also equipped with license plate recognition technology to facilitate subscriber access and ensure smoother customer exits.
