Background and challenges

With around 6,400 employees and almost 600,000 consultations a year, Amiens University Hospital is one of the two leading hospitals in the Hauts-de-France region. As part of the merger of the north and south hospital centers onto a single site, INDIGO helped the hospital define and implement its new parking strategy. The aim was to make up for a critical shortage of parking spaces, optimize car park management and ensure its self-financing.

The proposed solution

In 2019, INDIGO won the tender for the public service delegation contract for the construction of a silo car park and the operation of parking facilities on the site for a period of 21 years.

With the construction of a new car park, the reorganization of traffic flows and the introduction of an adjusted pricing structure, we were able to meet the expectations of the Amiens University Hospital, while adapting to the time constraints.

With the aim of making access to the hospital building easier and more fluid for patients and carers, we designed a new four-level silo car park, while at the same time deploying facilities adapted to each category of user in the existing car parks.

Construction of the infrastructure, based on a prefabricated metal structure, was completed in 14 months, including earthworks and the special foundations required to support the embankment.

Some 896 new parking spaces on 4 floors were opened at the end of 2021. A footbridge – accessible from every floor by elevator – links the car park to the CHU’s main entrance.

In the medium term, capacity could be increased to 1,030 places. This modularity will enable us to respond effectively to growth in visitor numbers, without any initial over-investment and while ensuring optimal long-term management.

At the same time, INDIGO has redeveloped all the other car parks on the site, notably by renewing all the equipment (access controls, cameras, etc.). INDIGO staff are present on site throughout the day in all the CHU’s car parks: the new visitor and patient car park, the 164-space enclosed visitor car park, the 2,780 spaces reserved for care teams, managers, doctors and ambulances, and the 75-space emergency car park.

In total, INDIGO manages 4,000 parking spaces at the CHU, reinforcing our expertise in hospital parking management.
