Indigo Belgium opened its first bicycle parking ever in the heart of Antwerp, underneath Tenierplaats. The parking is part of a bigger project, the reconstruction of the Opera square which has become a mobility hub that contains a metro station and a car park of 334 spots, Parking Opera, also runned by INDIGO Belgium.

There is room for 297 bicycles, 69 of which are for local subscribers. The location of the bicycle parking is very important because of the mobility hub close to the biggest shopping street of Antwerp, De Meir. The Mobility Council is making this new car park available so that the inhabitants of Antwerp and its surroundings can easily park their bikes for their trips in the city.

In the bicycle parking there are lockers and also chargers who are free of charge for electric bicycles. The public parking is free of charge the first 24 hours. Afterwards they pay 1 euro / day. Local residents pay 5.60 euros for a monthly subscription for a normal bicycle and 11.20 euros per month for a cargo bike.

The local residents are very satisfied with this parking, a pharmacy owner says:

“My employees will certainly use it, and I think many people who work in the area too. More and more people come by bicycle, and it is good news that they can now store their bicycle safely. The opening is also a bonus for people how like to shop.”

This is the first bicycle parking for Indigo Belgium but it will not be the last. Probably all 11 car parks in Antwerp get a bicycle parking in 2021.
